Varias celebridades exigen justicia por muerte de George Floyd

El mundo de las celebridades tampoco se ha quedado callado ante la muerte de Floyd, la escena más reciente de racismo y abuso policial en los EEUU.

El brutal asesinato de George Floyd, un hombre de raza negra que fue víctima mortal de un policía en la ciudad de Minneapolis, ha destapado una ola de protestas en EEUU y el mundo. A este reclamo también se han sumado las celebridades; varias figuras de la música, el deporte y la escena artística en general ya se unen en la denuncia de este triste capítulo.

Una de las voces ha sido la de la cantante Beyoncé, quien ha exigido justicia para Floyd mediante un video en Instagram, en el cual pide a sus seguidores firmen una petición que creó en Change.org.

“Estamos quebrados y nos repugna”, dice la cantante en su publicación. “No podemos normalizar este dolor. No solo estoy hablando con personas negras. Si eres blanco, negro, marrón y algo intermedio, estoy segura de que te sientes desesperado por el racismo que está ocurriendo en Estados Unidos en este momento”.

En el video, Beyoncé continuó diciendo: “No más asesinatos sin sentido de seres humanos. No más ver a las personas de color como menos humanas. Ya no podemos mirar hacia otro lado. George es toda nuestra familia y humanidad. Él es nuestra familia porque es un compatriota estadounidense”.

Otra de las que se pronunció fue la cantante y diseñadora británica Victoria Beckam, quien dedicó unas palabras también en su perfil de Instagram. Igualmente hizo saber sobre la firma de una petición, y recomendó varias cuentas para la educación y el aprendizaje con respecto al tema.

It’s impossible not to be deeply moved by the tragic death of George Floyd. I’ve been thinking a lot about it, and as a mother of four, what’s struck me the most is how important it is to not sit by and watch from the sidelines without doing anything. So as a family, we spent a lot of time this weekend talking and reading about the issue. At first, it was about how shocked and devastated we all are that this still happens in 2020, but has turned more to how we can be actively anti-racist, how we can stand in solidarity with the black community (not just right now, but always), and how we can make a difference. We signed the petition for George Floyd as a starting point, and I’ve found that @colorofchange, @naacp and @theconsciouskid are good resources for listening and educating ourselves. As a mother, I was also so, so moved by the eye-opening lyrics to @keedronbryant’s song. In addition to standing in solidarity, it’s our responsibility to speak out now and use our platforms for education, conversation and change. X VB

Por su parte, la reconocida presentadora de televisión Oprah Winfrey publicó en su cuenta de Instagram una ilustración de George Floyd con el mensaje: “he estado tratando de procesar lo que puede decirse o ser escuchado en este momento. No he sido capaz de sacar de mi cabeza la imagen de una rodilla sobre su cuello”.

“George Floyd, hablamos sobre tu nombre. Pero esta vez no dejaremos que tu nombre sea solo un hashtag. ¡Tu alma se levantará por el llanto de todos los que pedimos justicia en tu nombre!”, escribió Oprah.

Junto a la imagen de Floyd, que ya ha recorrido todo el orbe, se muestran reclamos de justicia de otras celebrities como Madonna, Michael Jordan, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Cardi B y muchísimas otras.

Las protestas por la muerte de George Floyd están lejos de controlarse. En realidad, cada día que transcurre los reclamos y la furia contra el atropello racial y la conducta policial van en aumento. Las noches de caos y reclamos en Minneapolis ahora se han extendido a todo EEUU, al punto de establecer toque de queda en 25 ciudades del país.
