Famosos donan dinero para combatir incendios en Australia

Selena Gómez, Nicole Kidman, Pink y otros famosos donaron recientemente grandes sumas de dinero para combatir los poderosos incendios que azotan desde hace ya varias semanas la nación australiana.

Gómez donó un millón de dólares mientras que Kidman, actriz de origen australiano donó $500 mil, cifra similar a la que donó la cantante Pink.

Otra actriz australiana, Celeste Barber, abrió a través de su cuenta de Facebook un crowfunding que, en apenas 48 horas, acumulaba ya más de 17 millones de dólares. Otra australiana, la tenista Ashleigh Barty anunció que el monto total de lo que gane por su participación en el torneo de Brisbane, será donado integramente a la Cruz Roja.

Como una consecuencia del cambio climático y la necesidad urgente de establecer políticas duraderas y firmes para enfrentarlo, calificó el actor Leonardo DiCaprio lo sucedido.

“Eso tiene que cambiar. Y tiene que cambiar ahora”, sostuvo en el actor un post que colgó en una de sus redes sociales.

Today the temperature outside Sydney was 48,9°C. 500 million (!!) animals are estimated dead because of the bushfires. Over 20 people have died and thousands of homes have burned to ground. The fires have spewed 2/3 of the nations national annual CO2 emissions, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. The smoke has covered glaciers in distant New Zealand (!) making them warm and melt faster because of the albedo effect. And yet. All of this still has not resulted in any political action. Because we still fail to make the connection between the climate crisis and increased extreme weather events and nature disasters like the #AustraliaFires That has to change. And it has to change now. My thoughts are with the people of Australia and those affected by these devastating fires.

El Sydney Morning Herald dijo que los incendios han arrojado a la atmósfera “dos tercios de las emisiones nacionales anuales de CO2”. Según entendidos, al menos 24 personas han muerto, y más de 500 millones de animales.

La primera señal mundial de alarma tuvo lugar hace ya más de un mes cuando, el video de una mujer que se metió entre las llamas a salvar un koala, dio la vuelta al mundo.

Un grupo de bomberos estadounidenses llegó recientemente al país austral a ayudar a combatir los incendios en la nación.
