Se busca pareja que quiera cuidar un faro en San Francisco por 130 mil dólares al año

Bajo el título “¿El trabajo soñado? Recibe 130 mil dólares por vivir en esta isla en medio de la bahía”, el portal digital San Francisco Chronicle publica que el faro East Brother Light Station, en la pequeña isla al norte del puente Richmond-San Rafael, ahora funciona como una posada y, después de abril, no habrá nadie para llevarla.

Che Rodgers y Jillian Meeker, quienes actualmente regentan el lugar, entregarán las llaves del faro que data de 1874 a la pareja adecuada. Los solicitantes deben estar preparados para hacer todo lo necesario para mantener el lugar en funcionamiento, incluso transportar a los turistas que quieran pernoctar allí. “Los candidatos seleccionados serán una pareja, uno de los cuales debe poseer una licencia de operador de barco comercial de la Guardia Costera”, escribió East Brother Lighthouse Inc., organización sin fines de lucro que lo opera.

El comunicado refiere además que “operarán la posada de cinco habitaciones, que servirán tanto la cena como el desayuno, además de brindar servicio de ferry para los huéspedes y todas las demás tareas, desde chef a mucama. La experiencia y las capacidades culinarias de alta calidad serán muy valorados. La posada está abierta cuatro días a la semana, y la isla también está disponible para uso diurno y eventos especiales. Los nuevos guardianes comenzarán a mediados de abril de 2019, lo que posibilitará dos semanas de entrenamiento”.

En 1980, un grupo de conservacionistas obtuvo el permiso para renovar el faro y hacerse cargo de su mantenimiento. El grupo fue dirigido por el ingeniero mecánico de Oakland, Walter Fanning, cuyos abuelos habían sido  décadas antes fareros de East Brother.

Este empleo para el cual actualmente se puede aplicar se abrió hace una década, y la isla se encuentra ahora en las listas estatales y federales de lugares históricos.

East Brother Lighthouse, or more accurately a Light Station, is a beautifully restored California Victorian Lighthouse Dinner, Bed & Breakfast Inn perched atop an island in the strait that separates San Francisco and San Pablo Bays. Located 30 minutes from downtown San Francisco, CA, the lighthouse Dinner, Bed & Breakfast is close enough for a weekend jaunt or as a unique complement to your San Francisco/Northern California visit. Once on the island, visitors take in the spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline, Mount Tamalpais, and the Marin coastline. East Brother Light Station has been an active lighthouse since 1873. La pareja escogida recibirá un pago de alrededor de 130 mil dólares anualmente y se le proporcionará alojamiento y comida en la isla, según East Brother Lighthouse Inc.

Tom Butt, alcalde de Richmond, también es el presidente de la organización sin fines de lucro. Butt ha aclarado a los medios que el salario incentiva a los operadores a mantener la posada completamente ocupada.
