Imágenes y videos que reflejan los inmensos daños causados por el terremoto – y una réplica de magnitud similar – que golpeó este lunes a Turquía y Siria, fundamentalmente, inundan la web.
La magnitud del terremoto en Turquía y Siria es tan grave que, el director del observatorio e instituto de investigación de terremotos de Kandilli, el Dr. Haluk Özener, expresó:
«Estamos ante el mayor terremoto que hemos visto en 24 años en esta región. Hasta el momento, se han producido 100 réplicas. Alrededor de 53 de ellos tienen más de 4 [en la escala de Richter]. Siete de ellos pasaron a ser mayores de 5. Podemos decir que estos sismos continuarán en los próximos días».
La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) dijo que estaba preocupada por las áreas de Turquía de las que no había noticias tras el mortal terremoto de la noche a la mañana.
“Las autoridades nacionales se centrarán en la búsqueda y el rescate en este momento”, dijo un portavoz de la OMS a Reuters en un comunicado. “Entonces esperaremos una mayor necesidad de atención traumatológica para tratar a los heridos y apoyar a todo el sistema de salud en las áreas afectadas”.
Países como la Indía ya han movilizado ayuda inmediata a la zona. Polonia, por su parte, dijo que enviará un grupo de rescate compuesto por 76 bomberos y ocho perros.
La Unión Europea, mientras tanto, dijo que había activado su servicio de mapeo satelital de emergencia Copernicus para ayudar a los socorristas que trabajan en el terreno. El Ministerio de Emergencias de Rusia dijo que tenía dos aviones IL-76 con 100 rescatistas listos para volar a Turquía si fuera necesario.
Por su parte, desde España, el Ministerio del Interior dijo que los equipos de rescate urbano de ese país europeo, se están preparando para viajar a Turquía. Otra nación asiática, Taiwán, dijo que el departamento de bomberos de ese país tenía un equipo de 130 personas, junto con cinco perros de búsqueda y 13 toneladas de ayuda, listos para ir a Turquía.
También el primer ministro de Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, emitió una declaración de apoyo a Turquía y Siria.
«En nombre de todos los ciudadanos de Israel, envío mis condolencias a los ciudadanos de Turquía en este momento difícil para ellos tras el terremoto que asoló nuestra región. A pedido del gobierno turco, he dado instrucciones a todas las autoridades para que hagan preparativos inmediatos para brindar asistencia médica y de búsqueda y rescate. Los ministros de Asuntos Exteriores y de Defensa ya se han puesto en contacto con sus homólogos y en las próximas horas acordaremos el envío de una delegación a la mayor brevedad,» indicó.
Por su parte, el presidente Isaac Herzog añadió al mensaje procedente de Israel, diciendo:
«En nombre del pueblo israelí, me entristece profundamente el enorme desastre que ha azotado a Turquía tras el terremoto de anoche. Mis condolencias al presidente Erdoğan y al pueblo turco por la pérdida de vidas y la destrucción de medios de subsistencia. El estado de Israel siempre está listo para ayudar en todas las formas posibles. Nuestros corazones están con las familias afligidas y el pueblo turco en este doloroso momento.»
